How To Start Exercising After Letting Yourself Go

Get fit and health and lose weight for free

Letting yourself go is something we are all faced with in our journey of life, the trick is to get the courage and motivation to start exercising again. Different circumstances in everyone’s life could cause this.  Breakups, new job, emotional stress, work stress, partner issues, moving, your mental state and even physical state.  There are  literally so many things that can get in the way of your “where I want to be”.  Remember everyone’s “where I want to be” is different so no judging, ok?

My “where I want to be” is not skinny necessarily, but fat will also be a problem.  I think my ideal is to be somewhere between GI Jane and Gisele Bundchen (the latter being my absolute girl crush in many ways, hot momma, toned, amazing hair, legs for days, walk a around with a kid on the hips like she’s walking down the runway.  So freaken hot.  I love a toned look, strong to me is everything.  That is in general, what I work toward and aim towards.

I mean really, is this fair Gisele? Go put some clothes on for goodness sake!
What does your day look like?

I have lately been struggling with time to get around to everything.  Work, play, train, husband literally just trying to keep too many balls in the air.  My day looks like this:

  1. 5:00am wake up run 8 – 10K
  2. 6:00am pack school bags (sometimes update Instagram then have to rush last-minute. Com to get all done before 7:00am
  3. 6:30am wake Sammy up get him dressed
  4. 6:30 also, try to shower myself and do my hair and everything before 7:00am
  5. It is now 7:15 and I am late
  6. Try pack bags for work, scrabble something together for lunch (maybe rae-vitas and cheese or a can of tuna or a shake)
  7. Try get Sammy fed and all his school stuff together and his vitamins, and feed the fish, and give the Jack Russell’s their Peanut Butter sandwiches, and also try and find Sam’s water bottle, try to remember all the things Sam needs for school, and and and… you get the picture?
  8. No full day work try and get everything done, I manage 3 different client portfolios from events to marketing to digital and strategies…. (a lot of remembering and back and forth and BUSY)
  9. Day is over dinner, bath Sam, spend time with Rod, dinner, shower bed time…

I sometimes feel so overwhelmed that I just procrastinate when I could have (on a tight squeeze) pushed in a gym session.  There are many things I COULD have done to improve my day with proper planning.  I could have woken up earlier to make time and I could have prioritised better.  The truth is if you are looking for a way to do something, your “will” to do the is what will push you through.  Read more on 4 ways to stop procrastinating

Three things you need to finally commit and get going is:
  1. What do you want to achieve?  (this essentially will be the “WILL” to want to do it) The trick is it can’t be for someone else, to impress someone, or to make someone like you, you can’t even do it if someone asks you to.  It needs to be YOU that makes the decision.
  2. How are you going to do it? You need plan (a training plan, also you need to hold yourself accountable, or get someone you can be held accountable by, like a training partner.  If you want you and I can hold each other accountable as I will be starting from next week as well)

You also need to plan your day so there is time for training, meal preps etc.  You need to plan your training, basically plan, plan, plan.  Failing to plan is planning to fail…. (we will get into this some more later).

  1. Create a starting ritual. It can be anything, but my best way is to set that alarm in the other room, count 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and just get up and do it.

Create a starting ritual

The most important thing you NEED to do before you start any of the steps above, is to forgive yourself, for fucking up, for failure in the past, for not loving yourself enough for everything really.  It’s that simple.  If you don’t you will never feel motivated enough and you will always find excuses not to start.  This is mainly because you don’t want to disappoint yourself.   Don’t delay starting because of past failures.  The failures are not going anywhere, they will always be in the past but the future is a new chapter and I for one am excited to start.

Now, I have committed and I am doing it.  My program is going to focus on cardio twice a week and strength training 3 times a week.   I am going to be Brigitte inspired by GI Jane-Gisele.  I understand my limits but with spring in the air there is no better time to start shaping up.

If you don’t know ANYTHING about training and how to go about it, don’t worry, I am a qualified personal trainer and I will guide you and help you every step of the way.

Please email me if you would like to jump on this program with me, I will make sure there is a program worked out before start on Monday as well as a diet plan.

Fear Is Not My Enemy

I feel fear still but it is no longer my enemy. For years I struggled with paralysing fear that used to cause havoc in my body. Anxiety steered my life and I actually had a condition where my skin broke out in an intense rash, I had to go to the emergency room at the hospital every now and again to get treated. Now, after treating it a bit better (no medical treatment by the way, just weeding the cause) I can actually cope with feeling the fear but going ahead anyways.
